After graduating from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Brno University of Technology in 1979, he worked as a designer, later as an independent development specialist at the Elektromontážní závody Praha in the development centre for electric drives. From 1985 to 1992, he served as a senior lecturer at the Department of Electrical Power Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology.

In 1990, he co-founded the Company ELCOM, a. s., where he served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director until 2018. His professional focus involved the areas of power quality and testing, coordinating the implementation of laboratories and test rooms for heavy-current equipment. He was engaged in similar activities at Emirates Electrical and Instrumentation Co., Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, Shuzou ELCOM Automation Technology Co., Changshu, China, and ELCOM Hong Kong Ltd., Hong Kong. He now cooperates with the management of ELCOM, a. s. as a consultant.

In 2008, he was elected a member of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic. He is a member of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies of the Brno University of Technology. Within the framework of pedagogical, scientific research and innovation activities, he cooperates with the faculties of electrical engineering of some Czech and Slovak universities. He is the author of the pilot project of the Industry 4.0 year-long seminar intended for grammar school students in their final year.

Since 2009 he has been a member of the Board of Directors and since 2012 the President of the Electrical and Electronic Association of the Czech Republic. He is a member of the Industry and Universities Forum. In 2014, he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, being in charge of the Industry 4.0 concept. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Centre for Industry 4.0. He has served as a member of the Steering Committee for Digital Innovation Hubs at the DG CONNECT of the European Commission. He chairs the 5G Alliance’s PS1 working group for industrial agglomerations. He is actively involved in the digital transformation of small and medium-sized companies.
